It has been a fact that the aging raven has learned is truest and most frustrating. A conclave of money, doting and a disinclination to pursue anything sharing a remote resemblance to labor, has been the construct of Xiu – or rather Nike’s life. He was born in Arbor Village. His family was not of any considerable wealth but they made enough to live in comfort and relatively fewer hassles than some alike them could say. They were a small family of three. Xiu, was named Nike, the forename that he currently uses in order to escape from punishment and dishonor – albeit both he seems to carry with him regardless of whether or not it is persecution by his people or self-loathing on his part. As it were, Xiu originally he was known as Nike and thanks to his parents hard work his life was easy and without responsibility. His carefree and frivolous nature were byproducts of both his parents tendency to spoil him, accommodating to his every whim, and his own lack of motivation to seek anything for himself. It was his firm belief that if it was something he wanted, he need only ask his parents for it. Xiu would go gallivanting about without a care, heedless to the more experienced adults and constantly finding trouble that he was quick to blame others for or flee before a culprit could be named. In spite of that he was clever, or perhaps because of it he learned to be quick and sly with his ways which only served to benefit him not to mention he'd already discovered his magical affinity for wind that caused more problems then they solved. As a teen he was little different, indulging in any pastime he could find and when it became too troublesome to manage would abandon it, moving to the next novelty without pause. However, his parents grew worried at seeing his lack of responsibility and in a bid to instill much needed discipline, set him off to be trained as a swordsman. Xiu naturally balked at the idea of doing something so barbaric but his sire was adamant that he go, giving him the choice to obey or live elsewhere. Xiu surprisingly didn’t flinch and flitted from friend to friend, living for two years and into his twenties on the charity of others and absolutely shameless when it was brought to his attention. However he got bored of this and of course sought out his parents who were happy to take him back and allowed him to continue his lifestyle for another year before the same issue arouse. This time his father did not allow him to go to his acquaintances and forced him to enlist. Xiu’s grumbles went unheard among the many grousing recruits and he as made to do the rigorous training like everyone else with no special treatment. Somewhere during his rigorous training he found himself enjoying the structure and stability, he may have lacked discipline but he was a good enough candidate if not a little boastful. There were ever warriors who shared his magic element and he learned from them how to hone his talents with both blade and element. He was a loudmouth but skilled in his own right but his personality was still lacking the maturity of his age, proof being that he skipped going to his Coming of Age ceremony purposely, five years in a row. There would not be a third instance for that was when the Great War and tensions escalated between the Felis and the Canis, Wydarea backing the felines and thus all rituals were canceled until further notice. The first year of war was an utter nightmare. He’d been told to prepare for horror but nothing had prepared him for the gore and agony and death that awaited him on the field. So many shifters died. Comrades who missed crucial details, friends who had no business fighting at all, fallen in the wake of the Canis onslaught. Xiu was kept on menial tasks at first, carrying missives and reports around the battlefield to his generals to relay tactics but when he was finally allowed to join the field with the other warrior’s terror seized him. His first battle would be his last and a fight with an enemy warrior resulted in the scar across his nose, the blade made of silver thus preventing it from fully healing. He would have been killed at it not been for those of his platoon as well as his own cowardice that urged him to transform and quit the field. Xiu flew as far as his wings would take him, not stopping for three days until exhaustion forced him to rest and weigh the effects of his actions. He was too afraid to go back, fearful that they’d make him fight in their war and terrified of dying. He hid, staying on the outlying territories of the Lacerta and rarely showing himself to others unless necessary. He lived in seclusion for the remainder of the war, guilt weighing heavier on his shoulders. As badly as he wanted to go home he was too afraid to set foot back in the village. Who knew what punishment would await a deserter. No, Xiu thought it better if they thought he’d died in battle and his remains were either mauled beyond recognition or never found. Unhappily he changed his name from Nike to his current alias, reassessing his skills and finding what suited him enough to get by. ★ F A C E - C L A I M: dramatical murder - koujaku, xiu hau ★ N A M E: rook ★ C H A R A C T E R S: no [/style] |
